Start with the reason for replacement
Is the issue recurring repairs, comfort in specific rooms, a failed component, or planning ahead? Collect earlier service notes and ask the contractor to explain their recommendation. Age alone is not a diagnosis from this website.
Ask how the home was assessed
ENERGY STAR recommends a home evaluation and appropriate system sizing rather than assuming bigger is better. Ask what was checked, what information informed the selection and whether the proposal addresses ductwork or airflow concerns.
Put competing proposals on the same footing
List the equipment, installation work, exclusions and warranties from each proposal. Ask about removal of the old equipment, required approvals and what happens if additional work is discovered. Our quote-comparison guide gives you a simple structure for that conversation.
A few common questions
What will replacement cost in Loudoun?
We do not publish an assumed local price or quote. Equipment, site conditions and the agreed work need a contractor assessment. Compare written proposals with the same scope.
Will my details be sent to several companies?
No. At this stage they go to the site owner. We will ask separately before sharing them with a contractor.
